homophily

n.

1. the tendency for individuals who are socially connected in some way to display certain affinities, such as similarities in demographic background, attitudes, values, and so on.

2. the degree of similarity between individuals who share social ties. See also birds-of-a-feather phenomenon. Compare heterophily.
