home range

the entire space through which a nonhuman animal moves during its normal activities. The space may or may not be defended from other members of the same species. The part of the home range in which the greatest activity occurs is known as the core area. Home range (or secondary territory) differs from primary territory (see territoriality), which is an actively defended specific area, and from personal space, which is the defended space that moves with an individual.
