Hoffmann’s sign

a sign of brain disease in individuals with hemiplegia: Flicking or nipping the nail of the second, third, or fourth finger will, if the reflex is present, cause a flexion in these fingers and the thumb. Also called Hoffmann’s reflex. [Johann Hoffmann (1857–1919), German neurologist]
