n. the condition of possessing both male and female sex organs (in humans, e.g., possessing both ovarian and testicular tissue). Hermaphroditism is very rare and should not be confused with the more common pseudohermaphroditism, in which the gonads are of one sex but the external genitalia are either ambiguous or of the other sex.
