hepatic encephalopathy
a metabolic brain disorder marked by tremors with increased muscle tone, mental status changes, and disturbances in personality, mood, and behavior. It is associated with liver disease and an accumulation of ammonia products in the blood and other tissues. Also called portal-systemic encephalopathy.
