group identification

1. the act or process of associating oneself with a group and its members, such that one imitates and internalizes the group’s actions, beliefs, standards, objectives, and so forth. This process can lead to an enhanced sense of group belonging, group pride, and group commitment as well as to autostereotyping.

2. more rarely, the act of considering another group’s perspective or outlook even though one is not a member of that group.
