Griggs v. Duke Power Co.

a case resulting in an influential 1971 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court regarding discrimination in hiring practices. The ruling established that proof of discrimination does not require the plaintiff to show that the defendant had intention or motives to discriminate if the selection practices had an adverse impact on a particular group (e.g., those defined by ethnicity, age, or sex).
