Golgi tendon organ

a receptor in muscle tendons that sends impulses to the central nervous system when a muscle contracts. When tension in the tendon becomes high enough to cause damage to tissues, Golgi tendon organs send inhibitory messages to the motor neurons of the attached muscle. Also called Golgi corpuscle.
