frustration tolerance

the ability of an individual to delay gratification or to preserve relative equanimity when encountering obstacles. The growth of adequate frustration tolerance generally occurs as part of a child’s cognitive and affective development but may also be strengthened to more adaptive levels later in life through therapeutic intervention.
