flotation tank

an enclosed container filled with water (usually highly concentrated salt water) and insulated from all incoming stimuli (e.g., light, sound). It is used for both experimental and clinical purposes (see restricted environmental stimulation technique; sensory deprivation). Originally called isolation tank; sensory deprivation tank.
