familial dysautonomia

an autosomal recessive disorder (see recessive allele) affecting nerve function throughout the body and characterized by insensitivity to pain, feeding difficulties, seizures, deficient tear production, excessive sweating, drooling, and blotchy skin. Mental impairment may be associated with the disorder, but most patients have normal intelligence. Also called Riley–Day syndrome.
