extraspectral hue

a hue composed of a mixture of wavelengths, and thus not falling along the visible spectrum (compare spectral color). Two examples are purple and white: Purple is a mixture of long and short wavelengths, whereas white is a mixture of all wavelengths. Also called nonspectral hue.
