exocrine gland

any gland that secretes a product onto the outer body surface or into body cavities through a duct. Examples are the tear-producing lacrimal (or lachrymal) gland and the salivary gland. Compare endocrine gland.

slow-wave sleep

deep sleep that is characterized by increasing percentages of particular types of delta waves on the electroencephalogram, corresponding to Stages 3 and 4 of NREM sleep. See also sleep stages.
