n. interventions that aim to improve the outcome of a genetic disease by altering the environment to minimize expression of the disease. For example, people with phenylketonuria can reduce or prevent its expression by eliminating major sources of phenylalanine (e.g., soft drinks sweetened with aspartame) from their diet.
