n. a hallucinogenic snuff prepared from the bark of South American trees of the genus Virola and used in Colombia, Brazil, and Venezuela. The bark is scraped from the trees and boiled to extract a red resin that is dried, ground, and mixed with wood ash. The active agents, which include dimethyltryptamine (see DMT), produce effects that are comparable to those of LSD. Also called nyakwana; parica; yakee.
