the structure associated with a motor or sensory nerve ending, such as a muscle end plate or a sensory receptor. The latter may be encapsulated end organs, which are enclosed in a membranous sheath and usually located in peripheral tissue, such as the skin. Kinds of encapsulated end organs include Meissner’s corpuscles (sensitive to touch) and Pacinian corpuscles (sensitive to pressure).
