enactive representation

representation of objects and events through action and movement, which is characteristic of infants and small children. That is, the child understands things in terms of how they can be manipulated, used, or acted upon. The process underlying this emergent understanding is called the enactive mode (or enactive stage). Compare iconic representation; symbolic representation. [proposed by Jerome Seymour Bruner]
