emotive technique

any of various therapeutic techniques designed to encourage clients to express their thoughts and feelings in an intense and animated manner so as to make these more obvious and available for discussion in therapy. Emotive techniques are used, for example, in rational emotive behavior therapy to dispute irrational beliefs in order to move from intellectual to emotional insight.
