the former name for an anxiety reaction now classified as panic disorder: The symptoms are those of a panic attack. This syndrome has been given many names, including cardiac neurosis, hyperkinetic heart syndrome, irritable heart, soldier’s heart, Da Costa’s syndrome, neurocirculatory asthenia, and hyperventilation syndrome.
