dysostosis

n. the defective development of the skeleton of an individual, either because of hereditary factors or because of improper care following birth. The genetic causes are usually expressed in faulty development of the bones of the face and skull. Examples of dysostosis include Crouzon’s syndrome and Treacher Collins syndrome.
