DSM–IV–TR

the text revision of the fourth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, prepared by the DSM–IV Task Force of the American Psychiatric Association and published in 2000. The classification presents descriptions of diagnostic categories without favoring any particular theory of etiology. It is largely modeled on the International Classification of Diseases (9th edition, 1978), developed by the World Health Organization and modified for use in the United States (ICD–9–CM), but it contains greater detail as well as a method of coding on different axes (see multiaxial classification). Previous editions were published in 1952 (DSM–I), 1968 (DSM–II), 1980 (DSM–III, a revision of which, DSM–III–R, was published in 1987), and 1994 (DSM–IV). Over that period, the number of identified disorders increased from about 100 to more than 300.
