doula

n. a professional trained in giving social support to families before, during, and after the birth of a child—that is, during pregnancy, labor, and birth and at home during the first few days or weeks after birth. Unlike a midwife, a doula is not a medical professional and acts only as a labor coach during the actual delivery.
