distributive bargaining

a form of bargaining seen in adversarial situations in which the parties involved must allocate finite resources, such that one party’s gain necessarily entails the other’s loss. The parties make demands of each other by indicating their preferred outcomes, using such contentious tactics as threats and arguments, and insist that they remain committed to their positions. Also called competitive bargaining. Compare integrative bargaining.
