dissociative disorders

any of a group of disorders characterized by a sudden or gradual disruption in the normal integrative functions of consciousness, memory, or perception of the environment. Such disruption may last for minutes or years, depending on the type of disorder. Some of the disorders typically included in this category are dissociative amnesia, dissociative fugue, dissociative identity disorder, and depersonalization disorder.
