discovery method

teaching that seeks to provide students with experience of the processes of science or other disciplines through inductive reasoning and active experimentation, with minimal teacher supervision. Students are encouraged to organize data, develop and test hypotheses, and formulate conclusions or general principles. The discovery method is associated with the cognitivist school of Jean Piaget, Jerome Seymour Bruner, and others.
