disconnection syndrome

any neurological disorder resulting from a separation or isolation of cortical areas that usually work together. Several neurobehavioral symptoms, including some apraxias and agnosias, are thought to be attributable to disconnection syndrome. [defined by U.S. neurologist Norman Geschwind (1926–1984)]
