direct selection

a form of natural selection in which some behavioral, physical, or physiological trait in an individual improves the likelihood that its offspring will survive to reproduce. This contrasts with kin selection, in which the behavior of an organism may not help survival of its direct descendants but may benefit its relatives instead.

long-term care for individuals with chronic illness (e.g., dementia, Parkinson’s disease) who are unable to function independently or for individuals undergoing rehabilitation that provides housing and meals as well as medical, nursing, and social services. See also domiciliary care.
