direct selection

a form of natural selection in which some behavioral, physical, or physiological trait in an individual improves the likelihood that its offspring will survive to reproduce. This contrasts with kin selection, in which the behavior of an organism may not help survival of its direct descendants but may benefit its relatives instead.
