diffusion process

in consumer psychology, the process by which the general public comes to accept a new concept or product. The process is often compared to a stone dropped into a pond that produces waves that spread outward to cover the entire pond. The diffusion process depends on acceptance by an initial core of people, whose influence then ripples outward through the surrounding population.
