dichotomous variable

a variable that can have only one of two values (typically, 0 or 1) to designate membership in one of two possible categories, such as female versus male or Republican versus Democrat. Also called binary variable. See also polychotomous variable.

n. the process of defining the context or issues surrounding a question, problem, or event in a way that serves to influence how the context or issues are perceived and evaluated. Also called framing effect. See also reframing.
