deviation score

the difference between an observation or value x and the mean value (i.e., x – mean) in a set of data. The sum of the deviation scores for a given data set will equal zero, as approximately half of the values will be less than the mean and half will be greater than the mean. Also called deviation value.

a series of norm-referenced tests used to determine an individual’s ability to learn, reason, understand concepts, and acquire knowledge. See EEG measures of intelligence; ERP measures of intelligence; fMRI measures of intelligence. See also assessment of intelligence.
