deseasonalization

n. the process of removing short-term cyclical variations in a time series to reveal the underlying trend. For example, a marketing researcher may want to investigate whether a particular advertising strategy increased sales, after removing the fluctuations in the data that have to do with the time of year (e.g., holiday sales, summer spending).
