depth from motion

a depth cue obtained from the distance that an image moves across the retina. Motion cues are particularly effective when more than one object is moving. Depth from motion can be inferred when the observer is stationary and the objects move, as in the kinetic depth effect, or when the objects are stationary but the observer’s head moves, inducing motion parallax.
