a delayed response task in which a nonhuman animal must alternate responses between trials. The most common version of this task is one in which a food reward is alternated from side to side with a delay between trials. The animal must learn that a well (cup) containing food is always on the opposite side from the previous trial. Also called delayed response alternation.
