delay conditioning

in classical conditioning, a procedure in which the conditioned stimulus is presented, and remains present, for a fixed period (the delay) before the unconditioned stimulus is introduced. After repeated exposure to such pairings, a conditioned response develops. If the delay is long enough, inhibition of delay may be observed. Also called delayed conditioning. Compare simultaneous conditioning.
