decision rule

in hypothesis testing, a formal statement of the set of values of the test statistic that will lead to rejection of the null hypothesis that there is no significant effect in the study being examined. For example, a common decision rule is to reject the null hypothesis when the value of a z test statistic exceeds 1.96.
