data screening

a procedure in which one subjects a large set of information to preliminary review for any of a variety of reasons: to check for accuracy, to identify unusual patterns (e.g., outliers that are very different from the information from most participants) or any missing information, to determine whether the information would meet a statistical assumption (e.g., of normality), to reduce the data to more manageable dimensions, and so forth.
