cytomegalovirus

n. a virus of the herpes group. Infection usually causes no symptoms and no long-term health implications, but if acquired during pregnancy it may have serious consequences for the fetus, such as microcephaly, jaundice, liver and spleen infection, pneumonia, deafness, psychomotor retardation, and intellectual disability.
