curriculum development

the process of designing materials for instruction that will be used within a particular school district, school, or classroom. This process takes account of several important factors: The curriculum must not conflict with the standard practice adopted by similar programs of study; it must identify and articulate core concepts; and it must include an empirical base as a foundation for the actual learning content, thus facilitating teaching strategies, assessment, and accountability.
