cue exposure

a behavior therapy technique in which a client is exposed to stimuli that induce cravings for substances (e.g., alcohol, tobacco) while the therapist uses other techniques to reduce or eliminate the craving. This technique is most frequently used in substance abuse and smoking cessation programs. See also exposure therapy.
