cortical deafness

deafness that is caused by damage to auditory centers in the cerebral cortex of the brain. The peripheral auditory system (which includes the retrocochlear neural pathways terminating in the brainstem) can be intact in this condition.

motor aphasia

a form of nonfluent aphasia characterized by difficulty in producing articulate speech. An example is Broca’s aphasia, for which motor aphasia is often used as a synonym. See also aphemia.
