cortical activation

cortical activation

activation of regions of the cerebral cortex or cerebellar cortex. It can be achieved by sensory stimulation or engagement in cognitive tasks or by such techniques as transcranial magnetic stimulation. The activation can be recorded by noninvasive techniques, such as electroencephalography, functional magnetic resonance imaging, or positron emission tomography.
