contingent probability

the probability, expressed as a number between 0 and 1, that one event or category of outcome will occur if another one does. An example is the probability that the child of a drug user will become a drug user himself or herself. Unusually high or low contingent probabilities (compared to the general population) may, but do not necessarily, imply a causal relationship between the two events.
