conservation psychology

a subfield of psychology that seeks to understand the attitudes and behavior of individuals and groups toward the natural environment so as to promote their use of environmentally sustainable practices. Because of the highly diverse categories of behavior being studied, conservation psychologists generally focus on specific actions, such as paper recycling, rather than general tendencies. Although related to environmental psychology, conservation psychology is distinct in its orientation toward protecting ecosystems and preserving resources while ensuring quality of life for humans and other species.
