confinement study

a study in a controlled environment to determine at what point physiological and psychological impairment occurs as a result of spatial restrictions. Such studies are important in space or marine exploration, during which individuals live and work in an artificial environment. The variables studied include length of time in confinement, area available, and crew size. These variables may have effects on sleep loss and ability to perform operational tasks.
