COMT gene
the gene that codes for catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT). Lack of one copy of the gene due to a condition affecting chromosome 22 (see 22q11.2 deletion syndrome22q112-deletion-syndrome) is associated with increased risk of schizophrenia, depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Other variations in the COMT gene may also have roles in anxiety and bipolar disorder as well as in eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder.
