compression of morbidity

the hypothesis that the impact of chronic and disabling disease on an individual may be compressed into a shorter period of time before death if the first occurrence of the disease can be delayed to a later age of onset (e.g., by reducing lifetime health risks that cause morbidity and mortality). [proposed by U.S. physician James F. Fries (1938–  )]
