comparative method
an experimental research method of analyzing and comparing the behavior of different species of nonhuman animals, different cultures of humans, and different age groups of humans and other animals so as to identify similarities and dissimilarities and obtain an understanding of a phenomenon of interest. For example, macaques are often used as a model for understanding human mother–infant relationships. However, male macaques rarely become interested in or involved with care of the young, so comparative study of other species is needed to understand when and how male care of the young develops. Also called comparative analysis.
