1. an array of chromatic colors around the circumference of a circle. The colors are arranged in the order in which they are seen in the spectrum, but nonspectral purples and reds are also included. Complementary colors are opposite each other.

2. the arrangement of color sectors on a disk such that the disk appears gray when the colors are “mixed” by rotation of the disk. [first devised by Isaac Newton]
