cogwheel rigidity

cogwheel rigidity

muscular rigidity that produces a ratcheted resistance to passive movement of the limbs of people who have Parkinson’s disease. It may also be seen as the side effect of medication, especially antipsychotic drugs such as the phenothiazines. Also called cogwheeling. Compare lead-pipe rigidity.
