n. a morphine-derived opiate that is used as an analgesic (alone or in combination with other analgesics, e.g., aspirin) and as a cough suppressant. It also induces euphoria; however, its addiction potential is substantially less than that of heroin. See opioid analgesic.

the shortest exposure to a stimulus at which recognition of that stimulus can occur. The shortest exposure at which words, for example, will be recognized is typically between 10 and 40 ms.
